Life/Family Transitions
Transitions in life and family all have one common element: change. How we deal with change varies with personality types and stage of life. Some transitions come about as a result of a sudden loss or trauma (such as a disabling accident or death) or can be something we’ve known was going to happen for a long time (such the last child moving away from home). Sometimes transitions can be especially difficult for women as many women are caretakers for others and develop an identity interrelated with other people in their life. A woman’s sense of self and degree of independence/interdependence are important in her adjustment to life changes. Symptoms of depression, hopelessness, lack of motivation, and anxiety can be common when faced with major life transitions.
